Bobby Saxton was the manager and was very good to me. The first season was very good and also scored two hat tricks, one against Wolves at Molineaux and a ‘perfect hat-trick’, with my left, right and a header at Sheffield United.” “The second year I struggled to score and got a bit of stick at the time, but kept believing in myself. QUINN STILL BELIEVING DESPITE CONCEDING STOPPAGE TIME EQUALISER!Jiimmy Quinn and Cambridge United were cruelly hit with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser away to Crawley. United opened the scoring on the 41st minute through leading scorer Robbie Simpson and went on to dominate large spells in the game. The result still leave's Quinn and Cambridge fighting for their battle to stay up as they remain one point above the relegation zone, but have played more games than the teams below them. Even though U's were on the back of two heavy defeats, they previously endured a strong run and were unbeaten since Saturday 27th January, which amounted to an impressive in seven league games. After the game NIBRSA President Jimmy Quinn, shared his thoughts on the 1-1 draw at Crawley. " I thought we did very well," said the disappointed Quinn. " We're in a position where we need all the help and support we can get. It's easy to be critical, but the season has been in this pattern all season where it's very, very hard and it's going to be like that right to the death, and I keep saying that everybody needs to stick together." "I'm very, very disappointed," he added. "It feels like we've got beat because we took the lead and we've played some decent football and I thought the two new lads (Dan Gleeson and Chris Flynn) slotted in well. Crawley put us under a lot of pressure with long balls and we just got caught out near the death, but I can't fault anybody's effort." Quinn made six changes, including recalls for veteran goalkeeper Paul Crichton and defender Mark Peters, and he explained, "We've got a lot of young players at the club and I just think that in the position we're in it's an awful lot to ask of them. We need as much experience as we can get and I think the lads did a very good job today. " It's disappointing and you feel for the lads but we've got to keep believing and plugging away. But there are a lot of positives to be taken out of the game and that's what we've got to concentrate on. We're in a fight for our lives, we've got seven cup finals left and people can be critical, but we've had a problem all season." Quinn reflected briefly on what the club have achieved since his arrival, " We've won ten games since I got here and done particularly well away from home, but it's too easy to be critical." The former Northern Ireland International still believes that the team have every chance to stay up, but the players and the club needs everyones backing, " Let's give the players and everybody concerned the best possible chance to try and get out of the position we're in, and you're not going to do that by ranting and raving. But we've got to keep our heads up and be positive. There was a lot good play today and a lot of good effort from the players and we have to take that into the next game". Cambridge United are in action next weekend away Northwich Victoria, who are below them in the league, but have several games in had. The game kicks-off on Sunday 25th March at 3:00pm. We wish Jimmy and Cambridge all the very best as they continue their fight for their conference status.

QUINN FULL OF PRAISE AFTER 'VITAL WIN'.Jimmy Quinn was delighted with the performance and win at Northwich that lifted United out of the bottom four. Robbie Simpson gave United the perfect start with a fourth minute strike, Dan Chillingworth ended his six game goal drought by extending the lead on 24, and Simpson completed his first hat-trick for United with two goals in the last ten minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Speaking to the media afterwards, Quinn was delighted that his players took on board the lessons learned by dropping two points at Crawley last weekend. " We've worked very hard in the week on different aspects of the game and they seemed to come into play today," he confirmed. "In the second half at Crawley we were leading and had opportunities to play and didn't pass it as well as we should so the pressure came back on us, but I was pleased with every one of them today." "I thought we controlled the game from start to finish, we didn't venture too far forward as a back line but I thought the three centre halves were immense for us. The lads in the midfield were magnificent and closed them down and stopped them playing, so it was a good day and obviously topped by a brilliant hat-trick from young Robbie. We put some decent balls into the box as well. I'm not sure whether we meant the ball for the first goal, in behind their defenders, but it was a terrific goal." Quinn was pleased with the overall game and added, " I thought we defended well, we shut the ball down and stopped them playing, and we were a force going forward, and it was difficult out there. I went on the pitch before the game and the wind was howling and it's still windy now, but I thought for long parts of the game we controlled the play and passed the ball and looked a threat; we should have been four up at half-time." With Conference results on Saturday going largely in our favour, today's win lifted United up to 18th from 22nd and Quinn wants his side to build on it and repeat the result next Saturday at home to Weymouth. " I said to the lads beforehand that if we can get a couple of wins out of this next two games we can put a bit of daylight between ourselves and the bottom four, and I think we're playing teams that we can certainly pick up points from," he continued. We probably need three, maybe four, wins to be sure and that's what we have to aim to do. It was great today for the fans; they were in the sunshine and it's nice because they travel the length and breadth of the country and that was a good performance and result."

QUINN SECURES CONFERENCE FOOTBALL FOR CAMBRIDGE.Former Blackburn Rovers striker Jimmy Quinn guided Cambridge to safety on Saturday evening with a 1-0 victory over already relegated Tamworth. Leading scorer Robbie Simpson scored his 17th of the campaign and only goal of the game in the 57th minute via the penalty spot. United held on for all three points and with scores from the other games going in their favour, they avoided the drop by four points. The players and coaching staff came back onto the pitch after the final whistle to thank the fantastic crowd of around 5,800 home fans for their support, but now they must start to prepare for next season with expectations of promotion.

QUINN UNVEILED AS NEW BOSS OF BOURNEMOUTHCurrent NIBRSA President, Jimmy Quinn was unveiled as the new manager of Bournemouth football club on Tuesday 2nd September 2008, three months afer leaving Cambridge United. Quinn took over the reigns at Dean Count a day after Kevin Bond was sacked. Quinn was previously employed by Cambridge United and in his first season in charge steered the U’s clear of relegation during the 2006/07 season. Last season he then led his side to the Blue Square Premier play-offs, but they were defeated by Exeter City in the final. Quinn then left Abbey Stadium by mutual consent in June 2008. Speaking about the move, Quinn stated that he was delighted to be taking on this task. “I am delighted to be back at AFC Bournemouth. First and foremost, the aim has to be to get enough points to stay in this league. That is the priority and we can do that by everybody working together. As far as I'm concerned, the supporters are part of the team and can act as a twelfth man. I will tell the players to go out and show passion and commitment to show the supporters that they will give everything that they have got. If we do that, then even if we lose a game, the supporters will forgive you. That hasn't been happening at the club, so that is why I am standing here today and it's a challenge I'm looking forward to. Since starting his role at Bournemouth, he has picked up 4pts from his first three league outings and also recorded another win in the cup. However, The Cherries, have a huge task on their hands as they have to claw back a -17pt deduction they received after falling into administration. With regards to the point reduction, Quinn further stated that he will not be focusing on that dilemma. “I will be doing what I feel I am good at and I want the players to be fully aware of their responsibilities and what I am looking for from them. It is about hard work in what is a difficult situation here. This though is a no blame and no excuse environment and that is how I have always worked. I don't want people here focusing on the 17 point deduction, it's about performances. You get good performance levels by working hard, getting fitter and focusing on that belief that you can win a game. So we are not thinking about the deduction, blaming anybody or using it as an excuse. There are enough games left this season to get the points that we need. We need to get them as soon as we can and then see where we are come Christmas and then you don't know what might happen.” Everyone at NIBRSA, would like to wish Jimmy all the best in his new role at Bournemouth and hope that he gets the success he deserves.
